The Maude Kerns Art Center presents “Print Perspectives: Work by Gini Holmes & Len Thomas-Vickory,” opening with a public reception on Friday, February 26, from 6 – 8 pm. “Print Perspectives” features two artists who work in diverse print media, using both traditional and nonconventional printmaking processes, including drypoints and giclee prints on aluminum. “Print Perspectives” is on display through Friday, March 25.
Gini Holmes, from Lake Shasta, California, creates inkjet print transfers onto metal, wood, and paper, using home recipes that incorporate hand sanitizer gel, hairspray, and liquid starch. In her “Wisdom Wafer Series,” Holmes uses vintage prints that have been digitally altered to include quotes from public figures. She then makes a thermal transfer on handmade paper, embellishing the images with various mixed media, and affixing them to china plates. Holmes has a B.F.A. from Stanford University and an MSVS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has exhibited extensively throughout California, as well as in New York, North Carolina, and Massachusetts.
Len Thomas-Vickory, from Beverly, Massachusetts, exhibits a selection of silkscreen and relief woodblock prints influenced by his trips to Japan and the study of Zen philosophy. Japanese landscapes have become the focus for much of his recent work. Photographed from train windows, the fleeting images of these landscapes are then translated into print media. Thomas-Vickory has a B.F.A. from Monserrat College of Art, where he is currently a professor of printmaking, and an M.F.A. from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Tufts University. He has shown his work in venues across the United States, including the Wenham Museum in Massachusetts and the Papp Gallery in New York City.
